“Raavanan” is the adaptation of modern Ramayana narrated with Mani’s touch.

The elegant woman Ragini (Aishwarya rai) was kidnapped by the tribal leader Veera (Vikram) as a rival for the cause of his sister’s (Priyamani) death.

The police officer Dev (Prithviraj) with his troops searches in the dense forest to free his wife Ragini and kill Veera.

The highlight of “Raavanan” is, star cast and picturisation.

Aishwarya rai stands out as a lead actor. It is evident that she took many risks for the movie. No one else would have best fitted in that character. She has manged to express the right feeling for both men that she is feeling for.

Vikram plays his best. His acting is excellent. His character looks notorious but he always shows fond of the elegant lady.

Prithviraj as police officer is convincing.

Prabhu as elder brother to Veera dons good supporting role.

Karthik’s cameo performance as forest officer is appreciable.

The movie’s visual, is awesome. Cinematography by Santosh Sivan is top-notch. Especially the climax fight between Dev and Veera is extraordinary. It looks very realistic and dangerous.

AR Rahman’s music and Mani’s song placement, is pretty ordinary.

Tamil nativity or flavor is definitely missing.

It is difficult to accept Mani’s compromises in the story line in order to reflect conventional epic. Few sequences could be handled in a better way.

It’s not Mani’s best but a very good sensuous movie to watch. I will give 6.5 out of 10 for this movie.
